What happens when you are driving in a car with your family then suddenly, bad weather occurred? What would happen if you were in such a situation? Would it be fine to drive amidst the harsh weather?
According to studies, weather acts through visibility impairments, precipitation, high winds, and temperature extremes to affect driver capability performance such as traction, stability and maneuverability, pavement friction, roadway infrastructure, crash risk, traffic flow, and agency productivity. The table below summarizes the impacts of various weather events on roadways, traffic flow, and operational decisions.
Statistics confirmed that the majority of most weather-related crashes happen on wet pavement and during rainfall estimated at 70% on wet pavement while 46% during rainfall. A smaller percentage of weather-related crashes occur during winter conditions is at 18% during snow or sleet, 13% occur on icy pavement and 16% of weather-related crashes take place on snowy or slushy pavement and only 3% happen in the presence of fog.
Car accidents are not uncommon, they are also part of the hazard list that people should be avoiding despite having traffic rules and regulations. On average, there are over 5,891,000 vehicle crashes each year and approximately 21% of these crashes are at 1,235,000 are weather-related. Weather-related crashes are defined as those crashes that occur in adverse weather (such as rain, sleet, snow, fog, severe crosswinds, or blowing snow/sand/debris) or on slick pavement (such as wet pavement, snowy/slushy pavement, or icy pavement). On average, nearly 5,000 people are killed and over 418,000 people are injured in weather-related crashes each year.
How would you avoid these tragic events?
There are many ways to prevent this from happening, the most well-known is that you should watch the weather forecast for you to keep track of the incoming weather. Another preventive measure would also be double-checking if the diesel exhaust system and the diesel performance tuners ate working. The reason behind these compulsories will be revealed when you read the infographic below brought to you by Pure Diesel Power.
